Carries You Can Do with a Pareo |

Back Torso Carry One Shoulder High Back Carry Pareo Pouch Sling Hip

The Simple Torso Carry |
The torso style of back carry, with baby's legs tucked around Mama's waist, is
ideal for proper hip socket development. It also provides excellent freedom
of movement for mama when she really needs to be able to move her arms. This
rayon pareo is 46 inches by 65 inches. |
Lean forward.
Put the baby on your back.
Hold on to Baby's legs and wiggle her down until her legs are wrapped around
your waist.
Hold the cloth in both hands, behind your thighs.
Spread the cloth out and shake it.
Lift the cloth up behind you, over the baby's back and shoulders.
Let the rest of the cloth hang down behind you and around you.
Continue leaning forward.
Tie the cloth very snugly above your breasts. Tighten the bottom edge of the
cloth. Reach behind you and grab the bottom edge of the cloth.
Baby should be snug against your back, with her legs wrapped securely around
your waist. There should be no gap between your back and Baby's chest.

Pareo Pouch |
You can use a large pareo for a shawl carry. Hold it by one corner, fold into a
triangle, then grab the other corner. Drape the large part of the triangle over
your shoulder and let the smaller ends dangle in front of you and behind you.
Tie a knot at your ribs.
Fold the point of the triangle up and underneath the shoulder piece.
This should form a nice deep pouch.
Kiss your baby. Always be sure to interact with your baby while tying her on.
Babies don't like to be tossed around as if they were inanimate objects.
Open the bottom of the pouch and slip her butt right in there.
Fold her little legs across her belly Indian style.
And there you go. Baby can look around and see the world, and then..
Nurse!!!
And then sleep. And then wake up and do it all over again.

You are a Master Babywearer |
In China, it is said that "A master is anyone who knows more than you do." So, you are all master babywearers compared with most of the moms in the world. You do NOT need to know everything there is to know about babywearing -- if you know even ONE carry with even ONE type of carrier, you are in possession of knowledge other moms desperately want -- even if they do not yet know they want it. ;-D Therefore, you should all feel confident enough to teach others! So, pick a public place, pick a day of the week, and start sharing your skills with other families! Then, list yourself here.
